Lovettsville Cooperative Market Hosts “Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive” for Brunswick Elementary School’s “Caring Cupboard” Program
The Lovettsville Cooperative Market kicks off the New Year with a “Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive,” January 4th through 20th, to benefit Brunswick Elementary School’s “Caring Cupboard” program. Caring Cupboard provides 60-65 students with supplemental food every Friday to help ensure they do not miss meals over the weekend. Students who utilize the program receive breakfast and lunch at school during the week, but on weekends they might not have access to three meals a day. Currently, 65 students take home two meals each Friday, amounting to 130 meals supplied weekly by the program.
The Lovettsville Co-op Market is responding to a specific program need for jelly, a staple in the childhood favorite PB&J sandwich. The goal of the winter drive is to donate at least 100 plastic jars of jelly, as well as peanut butter and other non-perishable goods, in plastic or non-breakable containers. Participants are encouraged to drop off donations at either Beans in the Belfry, 122 W. Potomac Street in Brunswick or Mad Horse Brew Pub, 34 E. Broad Way in Lovettsville between January 4th and 20th during normal business hours. The drive will conclude at the Co-op’s Annual Member Meeting on January 20th at Mad Horse Brew Pub. Co-op members should bring donations to the meeting to support the finale of this event. A full list of needed food items can be found at www.lovettsville-grocery.com/drive.
